Controls / SCADA Technician

Remote, - 2026-10-06

We are seeking two Senior Ignition Engineers to join the core team for a leading global data center operator. Ignition is already in production in the US on an established standard.

This is a telemetry role: Ignition collects data from power, cooling, and facility equipment and delivers it to the cloud (Microsoft Azure and Fabric); it does not control equipment.

AS A SENIOR IGNITION ENGINEER, YOU CAN EXPECT TO HAVE THESE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Install, configure, and commission Ignition 8.3 gateways at data center sites, mostly remotely, following the client’s established standards
  • Connect UPS systems, PDUs, switchgear, meters, generators, cooling units, and sensors using Modbus, SNMP, BACnet, and OPC UA
  • Build device connections and tags from standard templates (UDTs) and the client’s naming conventions
  • Configure data transport from each site to the cloud, including buffering so no data is lost during network outages
  • Manage configuration in Git and use scripting (Python/Jython) to automate deployment and validate data quality
  • Build and maintain reusable device templates so each new site is faster than the last
  • Work with existing BMS and EPMS systems, including Niagara-based systems, across a mixed-vendor environment
  • Deliver complete documentation for every site: as-built diagrams, device lists, data point maps, and validation results
  • Prepare technical details for the client’s change control process and work within approved change windows
  • Direct on-site technicians and subcontractors remotely, often across time zones
  • Train and mentor new engineers joining the program

TO BE SUCCESSFUL, YOU’LL NEED EXPERIENCE SUCH AS:

  • 5+ years in SCADA, industrial automation, or building and facility monitoring, including 3+ years hands-on with Ignition
  • Has personally configured Ignition gateways, device connections, and tags at more than one site
  • Ignition Core Certification, or the ability to earn it within 60 days
  • Strong working knowledge of Modbus, SNMP, and BACnet
  • Python or Jython scripting in Ignition, plus SQL basics
  • Experience using Git or other version control.
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls, VPNs, and remote access
  • Strong documentation habits
  • Clear communication with client engineers, site teams, and vendors

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ignition Gold Certification, or experience at an Inductive Automation certified integrator
  • Data center or critical facilities experience (BMS, EPMS, UPS, PDU, switchgear, cooling)
  • MQTT with Sparkplug B
  • Microsoft Azure or Microsoft Fabric
  • Tridium Niagara
  • Linux, Docker, Windows Server, or PowerShell
